One of the keystones of Christian life is sharing our gifts and our talents. Jesus asked us to care for the sick, feed the hungry and clothe the needy. We’ve been asked us to help out our brothers and sisters in Christ and reach out to those that may not know Him yet. As United Methodists, we make a pledge to support this church with our prayers, our presence, our gifts and our service. We hope this section opens the door to you serving Christ through this church.

In Our Church

Our church family includes more than 2,000 members, hundreds of children, and around 100 visitors every week, not to mention the countless groups that use our church facilities plus the Pumpkin Patch daycare and preschool. With so many people touched by this church, we all need to be a part of helping out. The only way a church can function properly is with the help of volunteers. The information included here is just a snapshot of the opportunities for service and needs of the church. PLEASE contact the church and let us know what areas you would like to help in. And, if need be, remind us again.

Ministry Groups

Sometimes, the best way to connect with others and the church is by serving. We have listed a brief summary of some of the ministry groups at First UMC on which you could serve. Ushers & Greeters

Dear Friends:

Thank you for your part in the hospitality ministries of our church as ushers and greeters.  You are the face of our church. It is your warm welcome that is a visitor’s first impression, and your cheerful service helps set the tone for our worship. We continue to hear from visitors that our ushers and greeters are doing an excellent job of making them feel welcomed.

If you cannot serve any week of the month assigned to you, please find your own substitute from the substitute list and call the Church office before 8:00 a.m. Thursday to let us know who is substituting for you. We have also discovered that with a seven month rotation (again because we have so many persons willing to serve) that everyone has been advanced a month on the schedule.  Please feel free to use the substitute list and switch weeks or months with someone from another ushering team. Please take a moment to review some general directions listed on the back of this letter.

Thank you!  We appreciate your willingness to serve.  The main goal is to continue to make First United Methodist Church the friendliest and most welcoming church in Kearney.  So bring your smiles and warm handshakes, and know that you are helping people to know the love of Christ.

Food Pantry at Eastlawn
