Adult Discipleship

Find The Group For You

Jesus’ mission started with him calling people to walk, learn, live, and serve together. We seek to follow in his way by doing life together in groups that share life, meals, service, and learning together. We believe we experience God’s grace and grow in God’s purpose best in intentional groups. See more about the established groups of Kearney First UMC below. Contact us and we will help you get in touch with the right group for you!  Want to start a group? Fill out our "Host Sign Up Form" to let us know!
If you don’t see the group/time that serves you best, contact a pastor to explore its creation.

Why Small Groups?

All of us have an innate need to feel seen, heard, and known. Cultivating our personal relationship with God goes a long way towards feeling seen, heard, and known by God – but we need to have these needs met in community, too. Small groups at Kearney First UMC are communities of 5-15 people who meet regularly on the journey of becoming deeply committed Christians. Join a group to find the people who will see, hear, and know you in your intentional journey of faith. Together, the Holy Spirit works in us to grow in love of God and neighbor as disciples of Jesus.

How Often: Generally every other week.
Where: At the Fowler's house.

Who: All ages, genders, and marital status welcome.

Discussions/Studies: Group-selected or based on Sunday Sermon Series.

About the hosts: Sarah and Matt are a middle-aged couple with school-aged children.  We are hosting a small group because we find joy, meaning, and challenge in sharing our lives with others in this type of setting. Our discussions are based on group-selected studies or the Sunday sermon.

About the hosts: Jeanine and Dusty are parents to three boys in all different stages and ages of life. Our goal and hope in hosting this group is to create a place for meaningful connections to be formed that grow into supportive, encouraging relationships. We are all going through life with busy and sometimes hectic schedules. We pray our time together as a group brings peace, fun and the opportunity for us to laugh, share, grow and learn together.

Christina Nelms and Bill Orr's Small Group

About the hosts:  Many of us missed fellowship from previous Sunday school classes or groups.  We wanted something that would promote growing in our faith and learning, but in a homework free environment since we are all busy adults.  Our goal is to promote connection within our group, fellowship and community in Christ.
