When we’re faced with a choice about doing a medical procedure or not…
When we want to know if or how we should (or, are called to?) try to help someone…
When our “distant grandchild” calls us from “jail” needing money to be bailed out, or a “foreign prince” wants us to lend him some money for a quick profit turn-around…
When the people on my social media tell me that chair yoga for three minutes a day for thirty days will give me a totally ripped and chiseled body my partner will swoon over…
When I’m convinced that my news outlet of choice is right and yours is malevolent propaganda…
How do we know?
In a world where everything shouts, where facts are individualized, where propaganda masquerades as news, influencers push products, and scams prey on trust, how do we know which voices to trust? Scripture offers us filters of discernment, reminding us that God’s voice can still be heard, guiding us into truth, love, and harmony with God’s will.
During the season of Easter (from Easter Sunday up to Pentecost on May 24), we’ll seek to develop skills and filters so that we can know well the way of Jesus for us in all situations. Each week, we’ll focus on a different scripture passage, usually some situation in which there is some form of the question, “Who do we know…?” We’ll also see ways in which scripture, as well as tradition, experience, and reason give us tools or proofs to help us know the way of Jesus. Together, we’ll develop the skills necessary to discern the way of Jesus in every situation. Here’s a brief look at each of the upcoming weeks.
Additionally, don’t forget about the weekly reading plan that corresponds to each Sunday’s theme (downloadable below) and the weekly podcast that usually deals with the reading plan’s text here.
