Dear Ron & Ron,

I would like to thank you for your selecting the Ranch as a recipient of money from the Christmas offering. The ongoing support and prayers from the UMW and Methodist churches in our district have been tremendous. With our expansion, our ongoing need to raise funds increases. This money will be utilized in the "Boys Fund", which will be helping with the playground that we hope to build this Spring. I truly appreciate your support and prayers.

In God’s Love,

Suzan Wilson,

I Believe In Me Ranch

Thank you to Dr. Ron, Rev. Ron and Winona for your visits, prayers and care bear. All were greatly appreciated.

Virgene Lundstrom

On behalf of myself and my family, I want to thank the members and friends of First Church and Dr. Ron for your calls and concern about my son’s recent surgery. Troy is recovering at home.

Wayne Olson

Thank you for the beautiful poinsettia that was brought to me before Christmas. It is so beautiful and I am still enjoying it. Your remembering me with the flower added to my Christmas joy.

Sincerely,

Velma Holt

To the congregation—

Thank you so much for the Christmas gifts. They really helped during the holiday season.

Thanks again,

An "Adopt-A-Family"

I wish to thank the church for the white poinsettia and to friends for the cards and well wishes for my birthday. The cards are still coming. It is so very special to have friends like you. Thank you and God Bless You All.

Al Kendle

Dear Brothers and Sisters;

We have received your gift of $678.88 from your Burger Bash. Your gifts are vital to our ministry. We are very appreciative of your willingness to participate in our fund raising effort. It would not be possible for this ministry to exist without second mile giving from congregations.

It has been our joy to co-sponsor ALPHA at FUMC. We are just beginning to see the possibilities of how this new program will impact our ministry on the UNK campus. The ALPHA model makes sharing the "Good News" easy. The events of 9/11 have impacted our campus and opened doors for us to do more in ministry. Our worship team looks forward to sharing worship with you in the future.

We want to again thank-you for taking the time to host a Burger Bash. In 2001 FUMC gave $1,513.88 in support of United Campus Ministry. Thanks again for your generosity. Please keep our campus in your prayers.

God Bless,

John Jones

Greetings from New Mexico! Hope all is well there. I am doing fine and working hard on a "jean" quilt for that precious little grandson, Jonah. He is 7 months old. I think they will be here in March J A skift of snow every now and then, but it doesn’t last. And hardly any wind. Keep well and warm.

Love,

Darline Anderson

Thank you for honoring the birth of our son with the rose and the book "A Baby is for Loving". A special thanks to Valerie for coming to visit us and bringing the rose and materials to us.

Sincerely,

Joel, Michelle & Jordan DeVries

Dear Ron,

I wanted to express to you how appreciative we are for the very warm and generous welcome the choir received in Kearney during our recent visit. I know that serving as a concert host requires extra effort on the part of many people. Please extend to all who helped make our visit so pleasant my personal thanks. It is always good to be in Kearney. We are grateful that people came out in such bad weather. Best wishes for a terrific 2002. I hope we can be with you another time.

Sincerely,

William Wyman

STORIES OF THE

PARABLE OF THE TALENTS

Although I had never participated in the past mainly because the Methodist Church I had belonged to didn’t do this, I thought this would be a good way for me to help First United Methodist Church in Kearney. I have made Bargello pillows for many years and took three of them to sell for the first two Sundays Realizing the price might be prohibitive, I switched to baking. I had not been able to stand and bake for a few years, but decided I would try to make coffee cakes and kolace, which is a Czech sweet roll. Needless to say, they sold each Sunday. The profit from the sales isn’t much, but hopefully it will help in the purchase of a new van for the Church. And it helped me to know I can still bake after not doing so for a few years.

Eye Update

When the trouble with my eyes was first addressed, I understood that my condition only occurred in 1/25,000 cases. After a year of treatment, the condition is not responding to the shots, so my next stop will be Good Sam’s for an MRI, and then a neurologist.

Some days I have to struggle to keep my eyes open, while on other days I can forget for a while that I have any eye problems. Everyone in this Church is so gracious, offering many different types of help. Some have even managed to get through to my stubborn, independent English heart. I really appreciate your prayers, kind words and gestures of friendship and concern. In particular, I thank those of you who have insisted on driving me to my various doctor appointments.

I am publicly thanking all of you for your support. I may appear to be frowning, but if you could see my heart, you would know this is not the case. I may look as if I am dozing during the Sermon. I assure you that is usually not so!

I thank God for our large caring Church family. May God bless you.

Valerie

APPLYING BIBLE PRINCIPLES

"Every man also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and find enjoyment in his toil—this is the gift of God" (Ecclesiastes 5:19)

Don’t you just love gifts? There is great satisfaction both in getting gifts and in giving them. Since we are created in the image of God, it stands to reason that He also must take great delight in giving and receiving gifts.

All that we have comes from His hand, but in particular, Solomon indicated that money and riches and the ability to enjoy them are gifts from God. In other words, God gives us that which is rightfully His, and then He allows us the enjoyment of wealth and money. As we enjoy what He has entrusted to us, no doubt He takes great pleasure in our enjoyment if our actions are in conformity to His Word and His will.

How can we be sure that our enjoyment of money and wealth is according to God’s plan? The Bible contains a great deal of specific instruction as to how we are to use money, but this guiding principle is to motivate our entire lives, including the use and enjoyment of wealth: "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31)

There’s nothing wrong with money. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the things that money can buy. Solomon was correct when he said that both are gifts from God. The key is to use money in such a way that our enjoyment will bring glory to God. One of the primary ways to do that is to give to the Lord and His work here at First United Methodist Church.

During the past few months, have you kept God’s glory as the number one priority in your use of money? Or have other things taken the place of your giving to God?

Our budget for 2002 is $1,095,956.00. ($722,056.00 is the Church budget and $373,900.00 is the Pumpkin Patch budget)

Offerings for the operating budget and apportionments through the end of January were: $58,428.79.

Unpaid monies on the amount borrowed for the rebuilding project are: $52,503.00 (Principal balance due).
